gift giving

“Every year I like to wrap my presents in a new way. This year I’ve kept the paper simple and added decorations and leaves. I’m also loving personalisation, it’s the perfect finishing touch to your gifts.”

“Being a stylist I never have just a traditional tree. This year I have a found frond and decorated it with beautiful native banksias which makes for a modern Australian tree. I still decorate it as you would a normal Christmas tree with a few of my favourite decorations.”

Christmas wreath

Christmas doesn’t have to be about a lot of stuff

My style is simple relaxed but still with enough Christmas cheer

I don’t mind a little bit of DIY creativity

“Whether it’s for your front door or a decorative feature within the home, a wreath really says Christmas. I’ve decorated mine with banksia stems and a mix of metal and timber decorations.”

christmas cheers

Tis the season! heres a little bar set up (with some of my favourites) that I created for Country Road

“A signature drink is my secret to a great soiree. For the festive season I have made a twist on a classic and created a Pomegranate Negroni.”

Pomegranate Negroni

I had this drink once at a party and have perfected it at home it’s  as easy as this…

Equal parts, Campari, Brookies dry Gin, Regal Rogue Rosso and a splash of pomegranate juice to your liking on a large ice cube  serve in a low glass with a wedge of orange and a pineapple leaf to garnish – cheers!

Christmas table Country Road style

Im so trilled ton share these images I created for this Christmas… simple, natural, creative and distinctly my style.

“When decorating my home for Christmas I always like to stay true to my own style. Living in Byron Bay, I am a nature lover and inspired by both the Australian bush and ocean. My style for decorating and entertaining is relaxed and laid-back but always creative. The colour palette includes neutrals, deep greens and metallic gold accents. Banksia are my favourite native flower and perfect for an Australian Christmas. They look great on the table, in a vase or decorating a wreath. I love to mix old with new, I’m a collector but more and more it’s about the edit, often not adding but subtracting.”

“I like the table to be relaxed and not over styled. I start with a table cloth and smart napery then layer different pieces for interest. In this case I’ve opted for gold cutlery for a festive feel and used native foliage as a centrepiece. I love to make each place setting unique by mixing decorations with natural elements such as leaves and flowers.”

country road picnic

Summer is finally here, its my favourite time of the year. Counting down to some time off over the break, I’m never far from the water.

Whether its the weekend or holidays i love a picnic, getting away on an adventure. Since i was a small boy a picnic has been something i have loved, there is something nostalgic to it for me. Packing the car up and heading off with friends and driving out of the city be it beach side or a bush walk.

Its not about packing up your whole house just some summer essentials, a picnic blanket, a beach towel, containers and plateware perfect for summer snacks or even a BBQ.

This season Country Roads colour pallete ranges from soft dreamy pastels to bold neon pops along with classic shades and materials.

MJG’s 5 tips to the perfect picnic
1. its all about a great picnic blanket as your base.
2. storage is important – pack all your favourite treats in enamel containers to create less rubbish/waste.
3. melamine is a chic take on re-usable serving ware and drink ware – no paper plates required and no breakages.
4. add colour to your picnic.
5.pack your favourite bag no need to pack too much to have an adventure.

think (pale) pink

Summer is coming you can almost feel it! it’s the perfect time to play with colour in your home.

Soft pale pink has been popping up on my radar for a little while. I love soft, faded pastel shades and pink is it! don’t be afraid of a little pink!

Pink can scare some of us, seen by many as feminine and too pretty but Im not afraid of a little pink at home and I even have a favourite soft pink shirt!

Here is my Pink Edit in store and online from Country Road and 5 tips to working with pink at home.

1. Get the shade right, Pink isn’t always the easiest shade to decorate with its all in selecting the right pink. Soft pale pink is easy to work with consider it almost a neutral, It adds a freshness and calming vibe to any space. I prefer softer shades to loud or bubblegum varieties but you be the judge of how much pink you think.

2. Add a little, don’t go pink crazy (well unless you LOVE it!) a little goes a long way, perfect to add a hint of pink with fresh flowers or table ware to brighten up your day.

3. Pink and grey are best friends, pink and all shades of grey go great together, think textiles and cushions for your sofa or for the bedroom.

4 . As with all colours try before you buy, just like your wardrobe ease into a new colour remembering if pink works in your wardrobe ( or as a go to lip colour) it can also work at home too!

5. Make Pink modern and sophisticated, it’s really easy to make pink look a little dated, forget the frills and lace and floral motifs, instead think bold geometric shapes, sophisticated ceramics and clean lines.
